Bahman Adlou (PhD Candidate)

Bahman is a doctoral student here at the Sports Biomechanics Lab. He is passionate about helping diverse populations from developmental (adolescents and youth), athletic, clinical, and elderly population through evidence-based movement programs to improve performance, move better, and have a higher quality of life throughout their lifetime.

Using advanced technologies, he aims to identify movement patterns that are associated with increased risks of movement injuries. Ultimately, once he identifies these patterns, he hopes to develop exercise programs aimed to prevent injuries, guide recovery programs and the rehabilitation process, and will become the foundation of return-to-play (or return-to-baseline) evaluations. His current research focus uses data obtained from motion capture, force, and muscle physiology measurements from the athletic population data in high volumes. He is developing a database and pattern recognition algorithms to inform sports medical and coaching staffs’ decisions.

Bahman is experienced using various research and clinical tools such as marker-less and marker-based motion capture systems, force transducers, ultrasound, and sEMGs to name a few. He utilizes his computer programming skills (Python and R languages) to write machine learning algorithms using biomechanics data, and to analyze and visualize large data. He has several years of clinical research background from trial director to research scientist working with academic, industry, and government funded projects (NIH and FDA).

Bahman’s has attended University of California, Irvine, where he earned an undergraduate double-degree in Economics and Biological Sciences with Neuroscience concentration. He completed his postgraduate program at Loughborough University in Sports Sciences and Health and received a portion of his clinical training at Stanford University. Bahman enjoys group games, watching NBA and Football (soccer) games with his friends. He travels internationally frequently to explore the world. He has played sports in collegiate or national teams across three countries and continues to play several team sports competitively to this day. He has a rottweiler puppy named Brookie. He was born in Iran, Shiraz, and his hometown is Irvine, California.
